Celebrate the sweet and colorful final days of summer. As we begin to feel the change in the weather, we note that in the blink of an eye, fall will be around the corner and with that we all should celebrate the abundance of fantastic crops we grow right here in the northwest! One gentlemen from the midwest remarked last time at the Farmboat market – he just doesn’t get to see the same wonderful array of choice vegetables every week back home. However, you can share in the bountiful harvest and salute the hardworking farmers of the Pacific Northwest by joining us this week at Farmboat — on the Virginia V.
This week we have a rainbow of colorful vegetables from Marshland Orchards to add to your cooking palate – not to mention all the antioxidants and vitamins for your family and good health including: yellow beans, purple bok choy, orange, yellow and purple carrots, white, green and cheddar cauliflower, Russet Potatoes, Russian Banana Potatoes, green onions, flat leaf kale, daikon, celery, broccoli, endive, beets, black spanish radishes, rutabaga, large tomatoes, tomatillos, summer squash, romaine, and bibb lettuce, lemon cucumbers, red, yellow and orange peppers and spinach.
Back by popular demand we’ll have olive and balsamic vinegar tasting with Eleven Olives, bread from Alaskan Sourdough Bakery, and Mexican food prepared by local Chef Adriana Coella with her flavorful specialities including home made tamales, freshly made tacos and other tasty items. We’ll also have some local fresh fruit and the first of the season fresh picked local apples! Fall is almost here folks – and we welcome all the delicious food opportunities we have to be healthy by planning time to shop for local and organic produce and fruit. We hope you can make it this week and experience a different kind of market – one that brings back the simple pleasures of a leisurely stroll in the park with time to shop aboard a historic maritime vessel – the Virginia V.
