None of us were prepared for the end of summer — or at least not many of us! Now that the weather has changed, FarmBoat has pledged to help you ease into fall with all the bounty of the season! Join us this week and take heart — there are many great recipes for fall time. Soups, chowders, and hearty stews, all designed to warm the body and provide us with dense nutrients and fantastic flavors.
This is the season where winter squash, pumpkins, apples and pears can be added to our menus! There are many delicious ways to prepare fall veggies and fruits and you can get a jump on these nutritious foods by visiting us this week at Farmboat floating market.
We’ll have a vibrant collection of fall veggies including pole beans, red beets, purple bok choy, red and green cabbage, sweet yellow corn, daikon, dinosaur and curly kale, purple/white Kohrabi, Russian banana potatoes, sugar and white pumpkins, radishes, spinach, broccoli, rainbow and orange carrots, white and orange cauliflower, Magda, Acorn , Kuri, Sweet Dumpling and Spaghetti squash and of course the best apples available now — Chehalis and Honeycrisp- all direct from the farmers to your table!

Eleven Olives offers tastings of their flavorful balsamic vinegars and olive oils! You can’t beat the flavor not to mention all the great health benefits associated with both olive oil and balsamics!
Seattle Bakery will have their scrumptous kettle boiled bagels – made fresh every day the old fashioned way, in small batches and individually hand topped and baked. Buy them by the dozen, a sure hit with your family and friends!

Here is a great recipe below for you to try – it is on the Mediterranean Food Plan – Naturally, one of the most important ingredients in the Mediterranean diet is olive oil, and in abundance also important are fresh fruit, vegetables, legumes and potatoes. Fish and poultry is consumed in some moderation and little if any red meat is eaten. Wine is also enjoyed although in moderate amounts.

Sauteed Spinach with Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar
– Bunch of spinach – washed and chopped, stems removed
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– a handful of pine nuts — 2 tablespoons
– 2 teaspoons of balsamic vinegar
– salt and pepper to taste
– shredded parmesan cheese
– head of garlic clove (as much as you like)
– *2 figs chopped fine – optional
Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat, start by adding the pine nuts, garlic and *chopped figs and stir for about a minute — add spinach and saute until just wilted. Remove from stove and add salt and pepper to taste. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese – serve immediately! Goes well with fish. Serve with a glass of wine! Enjoy!
